Child Stars: Then & Now

CHAD ALLEN

Then: Roles on Our House, St. Elsewhere, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and My Two Dads painted Allen (right, with his Dadscastmates) as a clean-cut good guy. “I was the golden boy,” he says. “It was this idealized version of me, so far removed from my reality. I had no idea who that kid was.”

Now: After a tabloid published photos of Allen kissing another man in 1996, he eventually came out on his own. “I was tired of lying,” he says. Now living in L.A. with his partner of three years, Allen’s since starred in the Tony-nominated The Little Dog Laughed, appeared in a series of made-for-TV films and stars in and produced Save Me, which premiered at Sundance last year.
