Chad on the case
letters to the editor in response to The Advocate
cover story.
As an older gay man, I have found myself becoming
disenfranchised from your magazine. Every now and then, however, you
print an interview or column that reels me back in. This month's
interview with Chad Allen was superb ["Chad's on the Case," August 30].
I have long been an admirer of Chad's acting abilities (even before I
knew he was gay). More important, with each interview he gives, I find
his values and ethics to be representative of all of my reasoning for
coming out of my closet 35 years ago. I made a conscious decision then
that in order to make a difference in the future lives of gay people, I
had to live as an openly gay person. Chad is in a unique position to
make this happen due to his significant presence in the acting
community.

When I was growing up I hoped and prayed that a Chad
Allen would come along. The Advocate tells us, at last, that he
has--someone unashamed and happy to be who God made him to be. Thank God
for Chad Allen. Truth at last.
