In a new video for
James Duke
Mason's 'Trailblazer' campaign, actor Chad Allen talks about being forced
out of the closet as a young actor, the fear he experienced when his
relationship was spread across the tabloids, and the plots that were hatched
behind-the-scenes to hide it.
Allen ultimately decided to
just come out. Now he's challenging other actors to do so as well.
Chad GUESTS ON DEXTER
Actor
Chad Allen, best known as a series regular from CBS’ “Dr. Quinn: Medicine
Woman,” has signed on to play a small role in Season 5 of Showtime’s “Dexter,”
Access Hollywood has learned.
Chad, who most recently starred in Here TV’s
“Donald Strachey Mystery” series, and in the indie film, “Save Me,” will play a
killer who is stalked by Dexter in at least one episode this coming season.
Chad recently executive produced the indie film
“Spork,” which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival and was the closing night
selection at LA’s Outfest Film Festival.
Chad Joins No H8 Campaign
On
November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state
Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The defeat provoked a groundswell of
initiative within the GLBT community at a grassroots level, with many new
political and protest organizations being formed in response.
The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity
photographer
Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the
passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their
mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar
legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.
Nearly one year since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 2,000
faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with
portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to
include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists,
celebrities, and many more.
The NOH8
Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world,
appearing on various local and national news programs and publications. The
images are currently being used on various social networking sites to spread the
message of equality, predominantly Facebook and Twitter. Eventually the images
are expected to be compiled for a large-scale media campaign.
Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign will be used to continue promoting and raising
awareness for Marriage Equality and anti-discrimination on a global level
through an educational and interactive media campaign.

From HollywoodPop.com - Score! We snagged the
handsome devil and man-of-the-hour Chad Allen for a little one-on-one (NOT that
kind folks, he has a boyfriend.) Mike asked him with some hard-hitting questions
from you viewers (remember when we asked you)... plus a few of his own. The best
is who was the worst actress to work with: Staci Keanan, Soleil Moon Frye (Punky
Brewster), or Shannen Doherty?

Out Dancing With the Stars
Fans of the ABC competition series “Dancing
With the Stars” who need a fix between seasons will be able to satisfy their
terpsichorean impulses in a new place: the Web site of Out magazine.
Beginning on Monday, out.com will present an
original series, “Show and Tell,” featuring Bruno Tonioli, a judge on “Dancing
With the Stars,” as the host. The series will be composed of weekly webisodes in
which stars familiar to visitors to out.com and readers of Out learn dances like
the waltz, rumba, cha cha and foxtrot.
The stars include the gay actors Chad Allen
and Robert Gant, the drag performer Lady Bunny, the transgender actress Candis
Cayne (“Dirty Sexy Money”) and the actress Marissa Jaret Winokur (“Hairspray”).
Their dance lessons were filmed at Balliamos Dance Studio in West Hollywood,
Calif., where same-sex couples dance along with mixed-sex couples.
The webisodes will appear on out.com/showandtell and abc.com, said Aaron Hicklin,
editor of Out and editorial director of its parent, Here Media, and are
scheduled to run through mid-September, when “Dancing With the Stars” returns to
ABC for the fall season.
The genesis of the idea, Mr. Hicklin said, was
a profile of Mr. Tonioli he wrote last year for Out, which led him to believe
that online video clips on learning to dance would be “of editorial value for
our audience” as part of a series that offers Out and out.com readers lifestyle
tips in areas like fashion and martini-making.
The webisodes on the Out Web site will show
Mr. Allen and Mr. Gant dancing with men, Mr. Hicklin said, while they will
dance with women in the versions shown on abc.com. (“Dancing With the Stars” has
no same-sex partners competing, only mixed-sex.)
Lady Bunny will be shown dancing with a man on
both Web sites, he added, as will Ms. Cayne.
Mr. Hicklin, who is British, described himself
as a fan of “Dancing With the Stars” as well as the British TV series that
inspired it, “Strictly Come Dancing.” Mr. Tonioli, a choreographer, has been a
judge on both series.

Chad Allen has replaced the
previously announced Tony winner Jarrod Emick in the upcoming pre-Broadway
engagement of Matthew Lombardo's Looped at the Cuillo Centre in West Palm
Beach, FL.
Allen had created the role of
Danny Miller in the world-premiere production of Looped at the Pasadena
Playhouse this past summer.
In a statement producer Tony
Cacciotti said, "We are all extremely excited to have Chad return to the
production. He and Valerie have such remarkable chemistry together and will once
again have audiences roaring with laughter. We are so grateful Chad's schedule
has allowed him to continue with this project."
As previously reported,
four-time Emmy Award winner Valerie Harper will star as Tallulah Bankhead in
Looped, which begins performances Dec. 31 at the Florida venue with an
official opening Jan. 7, 2009. Performances will continue through Feb. 15, 2009.
Rob Ruggiero directs.
Looped,
according to press notes, "tells the story of actress Tallulah Bankhead, the
original celebrity bad girl who enters a film studio session to re-record (or
'loop') one line of dialogue for her final film, 'Die, Die My Darling.' What
ensues is a showdown between an uptight sound editor and the outrageous legend.
Southern, but by no means a belle, Ms. Bankhead was known for her wild partying
that rivaled even today's superstars, including innumerable affairs with both
male and female celebrities and outlandish exploits that were too scandalous to
mention. Relish in the outrageously naughty wit of this sultry-voiced stage and
film star!"

SAVE ME PREMIERES AT SUNDANCE
FILM FESTIVAL
January 13, 2007 -
We are very excited to
announce that Chad's latest movie project, Save Me, will have its world
premiere
this
month at the
Sundance Film
Festival in Utah. Showings during the Festival will be Sunday January 21
at 8:30 pm (Park City), Monday January 22 at 9:00 am (Park City) and 9:00 pm
(Salt Lake City), and Friday January 26 at 8:30 (Park City).
According to the Festival
program, Save Me is a film about redemption. Mark (Chad Allen) a lost young,
gay man leads a wild life of drugs and meaningless sex, searching
desperately to fill the emptiness in his soul. When Mark finally hits
bottom, his brother checks him into Genesis House, a 12-step, Christian,
"ex-gay" ministry specializing in healing sexual brokenness.
Genesis House is the life
mission of Gayle (Judith Light) and her husband Ted (Stephen Lang), Haunted
by her past, Gayle is determined to save young homosexual men from their
personal demons. Scott (Robert Gant), one of the program's "fifth phasers,"
is Mark's mentor. The growing friendship between these two men threatens
Gayle. Increasingly suspect of Scott's motives, Gayle fights back, refusing
to let her carefully controlled world fall apart. Torn by the specter of
damnation and the pull of their hearts, Mark and Scott are forced to
confront their truth.
Your webmaster will
be attending the premiere so we should hopefully have lots of
photos to
share with all of you next year.
