TV Gets Gayer & Gayer: What’s the Real Impact?
Earlier this year, a University of Minnesota study suggested that TV shows that
portray LGBT people in a positive light, such as “Will & Grace” and “Queer Eye
for the Straight Guy,” can help reduce homophobia in the United States, yet
anti-gay hate crimes have increased over the past two years. And with all-LGBT
TV networks broadcasting now, pro-LGBT portrayals are at an all-time high. What
can we expect such visibility to achieve in the lives of LGBT and non-LGBT
Americans in the years to come?

(updated August 8, 2005)
- "Third
Man Out" will be premiering on here! in September, but mystery lovers got an
early taste at this year's Outfest in Los Angeles. Set in Albany, NY, "Third Man
Out" is just the beginning of a gritty crime series based on the popular novels
by Richard Stevenson. Chad Allen stars as Donald Strachey a tough, determined
detective who always gets his man. Strachey is hired to protect a gay activist,
John Rutka. When Rutka ends up dead, Strachey must work through an extensive
list of enemies while pushing through opposition from members of the local
police force.
At the heart of this story, is the relationship between the detective and his
boyfriend. The home he returns to in the evening is a far cry from his days of
investigating violent crimes. Strachey is the hero the gay community has been
searching for.
On hand to welcome "Third Man Out" to L.A. were Chad Allen, director Ron Oliver
and writer Mark Saltzman. This compelling mystery was well-received in Los
Angeles and viewers eagerly await its premiere. Stay tuned to here! and
