We
had our first night's rest after leaving the capital city
of Quito, Ecuador, in Shell Mera. Once a
tiny missionary outpost where Nate Saint built his isolated
jungle home, the town is now the last stop before the
jungle.
From
that point you can fly 24 hours in a single-engine plane
heading East and see nothing but dense jungle. As you
can see, accommodations were not exactly plush, but
we still had two days of journey ahead of us to get
to Wao territory.
After
a couple of weeks of monkey hunting and sleeping in
Wao-made hammocks, this tiny room seemed downright luxurious.
