Twin
brothers have written a script with a plum roll for one of their idols,
Dolly Parton. Having had no luck getting the screenplay into her hands,
they embark on a cross-country journey to personally deliver it to her.
Gary and Larry Lane set
off from Dolly’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (seen off by their
friend, Leslie Jordan) heading East for Pigeon Forge, TN. Driving the RV
(named Jolene) is Mike Bowen, friend / partner of 4 years. All along
Interstate 40 at rest stops, RV parks, gay bars and hair salons our
intrepid band of travelers meet everyday Americans, with a love for
Dolly.
The
journey is also one of discovery for the brothers, as well: their
relationship with their parents; their hopes, fears and ambitions; the
bigotry they’ve encountered; and the joy of realizing their biggest
dream—handing their screenplay to Dolly Parton.
A modern day Wizard of
Oz with the twins as our contemporary Dorothy, Dolly as both Glinda and
Oz, Interstate 40 as the Yellow Brick Road, brutal weather as the Wicked
Witch and an impressive band of Scarecrows, Tinmen and Lions along the
way, Hollywood to Dollywood is both a road-trip documentary and civil
rights odyssey. - FEATURING 15 Classic Dolly Parton Songs! and fun
cameos from Beth Grant, Lance Black, Ann Walker, Chad Allen, Leslie
